What is Laparoscopic Surgery?
Laparoscopic surgery is performed by entering with special instruments and camera from the abdomen with incisions of 0.5 and 1 cm. At the beginning of the surgery, the abdomen is inflated with carbon dioxide gas in order to provide working and vision. With this method, it is possible to perform the same operation with smaller incisions.
What are the advantages of laparoscopic surgery?
Compared to conventional surgery, patients experience less pain, shorter recovery time, less risk of wound infection, and less scarring.
Which operations can be performed with laparoscopic surgery?
Most digestive system surgery can be performed laparoscopically.
These are;
- Colorectal surgery (Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, diverticulitis, cancer, rectal prolapse and severe constipation)
- Gastric Surgery (Reflux, Obesity Surgery, Gastric Tumors)
- Esophageal Surgery (Esophageal Tumors, Achalasia)
- Adrenal (adrenal gland) surgery
- Gallbladder stone
- Inguinal hernia and incisional hernia
- Spleen operations
In the past, there were doubts about the use of laparoscopic surgery in cancer surgery. Recent studies on hundreds of patients have shown that laparoscopic surgery is safe in cancers.
